The fertility diet that changed my life was a 360 to my TTC journey. It was the month I got pregnant with my now 1 year old baby girl. I tracked my fertility diet in MyFitnessPal the month I conceived her in order to keep track and share my recipes, foods and journey with you.

Before getting pregnant I changed my mindset and I changed my health habits. I created a course to assist women in their journey to pregnancy as well.

Fertility Diet | Be Fruitful + Multiply

In my prayer time this morning and during the past couple of weeks I really have been focusing on the word fruitful. 

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)

So when we think about the Lord and what he is to us think about this scripture. He is the vine and God is the gardener.

So when you have a vine at the end of that vine is a branch. We are the branches and we stem from Jesus. At the end of that branch is fruit and God is the one who prunes us. 

He helps us continue to bear fruit or guides us in getting rid of rotten fruit. 

We can’t bear fruit if we’re attached to dead things. 

For example, my husband and I moved into a new house about 2 years ago and everytime I move into a new place my grandmother gifts me with a plant. Each time she has done this I have killed the plant. 

Until now.

Alive, Not Dead

It’s still alive but it did have a dead branch recently and I could already see that the branches around it were dying off as well. So this just this one branch was killing the other branches.

So I pruned it like God prunes us in our lives. He tries to take away the dead things in our lives and sometimes we continue to hold on to those dead things.

Maybe continuing to hold on to the people who aren’t benefiting our lives.

Or material things that we need to let go in order for our lives to prosper. 

Dead branches are not going to do anything for your life. 

It’s not going to do anything for the plant that I have. It’s going to continue to spread.

How to be Fruitful

So in order to bear fruit we have to abide in Jesus. Scripture says that if we abide in Him, He will abide in us. So how can you be more fruitful? 

  • Having a Prayer Life
  • Listening to sermons 
  • Reading the Bible Daily

We have to cut off dead things. When you have a branch that’s dead it’s not going to bear any fruit.Think about an apple tree. At the end of apple branch should be an apple, right? 

If that tree is not foundationally rooted and there are dead branches, apples will not grow.

When we continue to bear fruit in our lives, it multiplies. A tree is meant to give you multiple fruit and therefore there should be multiple people you should be feeding into.

We should be praying for others and rooting ourselves in spiritual foundation.

The TOP Fertility Food I Ate My BFP Month

Finally, the topic you’ve been scrolling for!

I was talking with one of my clients about nutrition and how eating fertility rich foods benefits in increasing fertility. So we talked about 8 to 10 foods that could be really beneficial for her cycle.

We discussed in detail the BEST and EASIEST food to incorporate into her diet and that food is actually a fruit and it is an avocado! 

Avocado is a very nutritious fruit that has vitamin E and folic acid which is amazing for your future babies! Avocados are also considered a healthy fat. It’s a monounsaturated fat which helps support your hormone balance.

It increases your HDL, which is your happy cholesterol and decreases your LDL or your lousy cholesterol.

So it helps balance cholesterol levels, YAY!

We Can Learn a Lesson from the Avocado Tree!

Also what I really love about Avocados is they do not self pollinate. Most trees are able to self pollinate, grow and reproduce by themselves.

Avocado trees need another avocado tree close by to help it bear fruit. How amazing is that?!

It needs help just like we need help in order to reproduce. We work together as a TTC community to give advice so that we can bear fruit in our lives and of course our hubbies serve as the other tree to help us reproduce and grow babies!

Like I said before, they are a good source of vitamin E which can assist in sperm motility!

So, tacos, guacamole, avocado toast. Eat it all!

How to Balance Hormones Naturally for Pregnancy

I want to provide you with some tips on how you can balance hormones naturally while trying to get pregnant. Some of you might be a little upset about these tips because it’s going to require a little bit of work, okay? But if you struggle with irregular cycles, hormone balance after birth control (that was me), short luteal phases, miscarriages, PCOS, and/or endometriosis here’s some tips that you can use to balance your hormones naturally!

Balance Hormones Naturally

I personally have dealt with balancing my hormones after birth control, after multiple miscarriages as well as irregular cycles (short luteal phases).

I do have some symptoms of PCOS but I’m not declaring that over my life, okay?! 

I don’t have a clear diagnosis of really lengthy cycles but I do sometimes have to pluck a few if you know what I mean.

Anywho, I just want to come to you with my experiences and what I have tried and succeeded at with balancing my hormones. So here we go!

Nutrition

Alright, the first tip is nutrition. What you feed your body directly correlates how your hormones are going to react to those things that you’re putting in your body!

Different foods will assist you in your fertility journey as well as in your journey to hormone balance.

For me nutrition is key! LIKE KEY!

I’m talking about nutrition, eating healthy, eating the foods that are right for YOU 

So here are a few nutritional tips that I can give you as far as naturally balancing your hormones. 

Balance hormones naturally

Avoid Unhealthy Fats and Decrease Sugar

Avoid trans fat and saturated fats. Make sure to avoid fats that are just not doing you any good, okay? The kind of fats that will attach to your body and stay there.

Eat healthy fats such as avocados which are great for fertility! Other healthy fats such as nuts and seeds are great as well. 

Also, it’s time to take a sugar hiatus. I know. NOT FUN. But sugar converts to fat sis and also can cause inflammation in your body (we’ll talk about that in a bit). Put that donut down!

Increase Veggie Proteins

Also, increase those protein veggies. Increase beans and leafy greens because let’s be honest there are a lot of vegetables out there with protein we don’t really have to search far!

Prenatal or Multivitamin

Next, take a daily multivitamin or prenatal vitamin and if your TTC make sure it has folic acid in it. Folic acid helps in preparing your body to be able to take care of the baby in their first developmental stages of your womb.

Intermittent Fasting

This is something that truly helped me to get pregnant. I used intermittent fasting to help heal my digestive system. Your digestive system directly correlates with your hormones because if you’re holding onto waste, that doesn’t help cleanse our system. 

I was holding on to waste and I was constantly bloated and constipated. UGH

Anywho, Intermittent fasting is when you take a chunk of time where you are intentionally resting and not eating.  Then, you have a chunk of time where you’re intentionally eating.

I’ll give you an example. 

The routine I used to balance hormones naturally was a 14-10 schedule. 

14 hours of sleep and rest then 10 hours of eating.

If you’re just starting out with intermittent fasting my suggestion is to start out with a 8 and 16 hour schedule.

Meaning you’re resting for 8 hours and then 16 hours of intentional eating. Once you’ve mastered that then you would increase your rest hours. Remember, resting means sleep and properly giving your digestive system a break.

I don’t recommend going over 14 hours of rest because we also want to make sure that hormones are regulated. If you are not eating at consistent intervals then that can also cause hormone imbalance.

Anti Inflammatory Diet

Lastly, for nutrition, the anti-inflammatory diet

The anti-inflammatory diet is where you eat less inflammatory foods (foods that cause inflammation) right you’re eating less things that will cause inflammation in your body because Some of the foods that cause inflammation in our body can also cause chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Even conditions such as endometriosis and PCOS can be exacerbated by inflammatory foods.

Excercise

Next up is exercise. Yes I said it sis. Exercise is immensely important to assist in balancing your hormones naturally. But there are a few guidelines. 

If you are overweight, you can cause your body to hold onto extra estrogen but alternatively if you are underweight, too much exercise can sometimes cause you not to ovulate at all.

Really, we’d like to have an ideal body weight so that estrogen levels are sufficient. With a consistent workout routine and nutritional changes it is possible!

When I say exercise I’m talking about moving your body intentionally for 30 minutes. No, walking at work is not an exercise. I want you to move your body for at least 20 to 30 minutes per day, intentionally!

Go for a 30 minute walk outside or at the gym. Lift weights or complete body weight exercises for 30 minutes. Take a class at your local community center.

Or join my home workout fitness challenge group!

Whatever it is that you enjoy doing I encourage you to just move for 30 minutes a day to balance hormones naturally!

Reduce Stress and Rest 

So I do have a video on my YouTube channel where I discuss how to decrease stress and increase fertility

When I talked about intermittent fasting earlier we talked about bowel rest. Now we’re talking about having a solid sleep routine of 6 to 8 hours at night to allow for your hormones to balance naturally.

I know it can be difficult, right? Because we can’t turn off our minds. We can’t turn off our phones but I do have some tips like I said in my decreasing stress and increasing fertility video to help with that!

I know you were expecting something really extravagant but your OVERALL health is just important. Nutrition, exercise, rest and your overall health will help you in balancing your hormones.

My Fertility Journey

If you’ve been following our blog and Youtube journey you know a little bit about my journey.

For those who aren’t familiar I’ll give you a little snippet.

In 2016 I started birth control (3 months before my wedding because we were celibate until then) because at that time, my husband and I wanted to “enjoy” each other before starting a family. We didn’t know the struggle that came with TTC.

February 2017, we were hit with baby fever. OMGee, babies are just the cutest humans EVER.

So we stopped birth control and we’re expecting to be pregnant in March… 

LOL

Fast forward a year, we finally got pregnant, but miscarried. TWICE. One was a chemical and the other a blighted ovum.

Finally we conceived are precious rainbow baby Ava July 2018 and are now pregnant again (hello 2 under 2) with our second child who is due July 2020.

God has truly blessed us through this journey and has shown me some natural (and inexpensive) products to use to get pregnant so I wanted to share them with you!

This is a MUST HAVE. Especially if you aren’t quite familiar with your cycle (or think you are). 

I honestly thought I knew my cycle and knew my body before TTC… WRONG.

I learned so much through the various apps I used on my phone. Some of my favorites are:

  • Fertility Friend
  • Ovia
  • Glow (my ultimate fav)

Fertility apps will not only help you recognize your most fertile window to have sex (or baby dance in TTC terms) but it will also track the length of your cycle, give you tips throughout, and help you learn more about your body!

Prenatal Vitamins

It’s important to initiate a prenatal vitamin when you are trying to conceive. Here’s the prenatal vitamin I use.

Folic acid is the most important vitamin for trying to conceive or early pregnancy. Folic acid helps your future baby develop properly and protects it against serious birth defects.

Most prenatal vitamins include folic acid.

Prenatal’s are also important to make sure that you’re receiving the appropriate nutrients to fuel your body and have a healthy cycle. Vitamin deficiencies can sometimes hinder your body’s hormonal process and therefore hinder your ability to conceive.

Also when you’re currently on a prenatal vitamin it’s much easier to continue (and not forget) the vitamin during pregnancy and already have those nutrients available for your baby.

A definite must have fertility product!

Ovulation Tests

I honestly have no idea what I would have done without OPKs (ovulation predictor kits). This is a definite must-have if you have irregular cycles. 

Ovulation tests are designed to detect the luteinizing hormone which increases during ovulation. This is known as the LH surge. 

Along with your cervical mucus, ovulation test can show you signs leading up to ovulation day. With this current pregnancy I actually use ovulation test to determine the length of my LH surge which happened to be around 12 hours.

This can be helpful because after the surge is when the egg is released so knowing what my LH surge ended was important in timing for conception

Ovulation tests are also a must have fertility product you need before TTC because if you’re a newbie to this community you might not even know what ovulation means.

Or what it means for you.

I suggest if you’re a newbie at this to start opk’s one day after the last day of your menstrual period. Take the test once daily in the afternoon or late morning until you receive your surge in a negative test after that.

This will help you determine your ovulation day as well as your most fertile window of days for conception.

A Huge Pineapple Farm!

I’m probably exaggerating a little bit (a lotta bit) but I love pineapple especially for TTC!

Pineapples are sooo beneficial for your luteal phase also known as your two week wait (time after ovulation pending  a hopeful pregnancy).

The core of a pineapple is full of a vital nutrient called bromelain which is very helpful in assisting your corpus luteum (in your uterus) for implantation during the two week wait.

It helps reduce inflammation in the body to provide an optimal environment for baby to thrive!

I like to cut of the core of the pineapple into 6 chunks and eat them the first 6 days after ovulation!

Either in a smoothie or by itself!

Pregnancy Tests

Sis, if you’re anything like me, you make POAS (pee on a stick) an occupation.

Taxing, sometimes. But I can’t really explain, there’s nothing like a progression test video o keep you hopeful!

Fertile Faith Sisterhood

All of the previous tips dealt with the physical aspect of TTC. 

Well, incorporating your spiritual faith as well as preparing mentally for the journey ahead has helped me as well. I use a devotional bible to study the Word of God.

My Blighted Ovum Miscarriage Story

Almost two years to the date I experienced my second pregnancy and didn’t know I need bible verses for miscarriage to get me through the next few months. My first pregnancy ended in a chemical loss the month beforehand. 

That was a very traumatic month for me as I learned that I was newly pregnant for the first time.

I also received a call from my mother who told me that my 16 year old cousin had committed suicide.

So my grief was twofold. Grieving the loss of a family member and then also grieving the loss of a potential pregnancy (and not wanting to share the news)

We had been trying for almost a year… No it was actually a year that we had been trying to conceive.

Finally we saw the two lines.

The chemical, yes, was devastating but we decided to try again the next month.

We actually had success and that takes us to my second pregnancy. A pregnancy that also ended in loss. But this was a different kind of loss.

Our first ultrasound was at 6 weeks pregnant. We were told there was only a yolk sac.

But because I had had a chemical prior to this new pregnancy the doctor thought my days and dates we’re probably off (even though I tracked ovulation)

They said that it was too early to tell.

We Weren’t Expecting This…

They decided (and I say “they” as in my doctor and OB at the time) it would be best if we wait for  a couple of weeks and have another ultrasound.

My HCG was constantly rising and so I thought there’s got to be a baby in there.

A couple of weeks later I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum. A pregnancy with no fetus.  

I was…  hesitant to accept the news and the diagnosis. Some could say I was in denial.

But through it all my trust was in the Lord. I trusted God to get me through and I trusted His will for my life. Trusted that because He put in my heart the desire to become a mother that it would come to pass.  

I didn’t know if it was going to be that same year or the next or 10 years from then but prayed and shared my TTC journey on YouTube.

It Lasted So Long

Sharing was a coping mechanism for me especially during this miscarriage because technically without a fetus I’ve been miscarrying since the beginning of the pregnancy.  

We chose not to proceed with a D&C procedure or the pill and let nature and God take its course. Then I started to miscarry and bleed shortly before what would have been the second trimester. 

I bled for 45 days.

Shortly after, I ended up taking a pill to help the process a couple of weeks prior to the miscarriage ending because it was taking so long.

But I don’t want to alarm you! I know there are plenty of women who experienced WAY shorter miscarriages. But everybody’s experience is definitely different.

Blighted Ovum Explained

A blighted ovum is also known as an anembryonic pregnancy. (an- meaning without and embryonic meaning embryo). So it’s a pregnancy without a fetus. 

In my case, and most cases, pregnancy symptoms will occur with a positive pregnancy test including in the urine as well as the blood.

At one point, my HCG (pregnancy hormone detected on pregnancy tests) reached 40,0000 (lowest positive pregnancy tests show around 6-25hcg). The fertilized egg implanted but did not grow into a fetus, causing the increase in pregnancy hormones and symptoms.

 I was SURE and had complete FAITH that I was pregnant!

Spiritually in my mind and physically through my body!

As I discussed before, that pregnancy was diagnosed with a blighted ovum and ended in miscarriage.

What Causes a Blighted Ovum?

According to a blighted ovum study conducted in 2019 and linked here, blighted ovums are mainly caused by genetics. Chromosomal abnormalities account for most studied miscarriages.

Spiritually, my belief is that God allows certain situations to occur to build our faith as well as build His kingdom.

Faith as it pertains to your trying to conceive journey is immensely important.

I mean sis… The definition of faith is hope for things not seen, right? (Heb 11:1) That is LITERALLY what TTC is about.

What to do AFTER a Blighted Ovum Miscarriage?

So you’re probably wondering I’ve experienced the blighted ovum now what

What should I do next?

After I experienced my blighted ovum I had to continue to receive blood tests to check the amount of pregnancy hormones in my system. Once we received a blood test of 10 HCG we stopped testing.

Then more waiting, of course a pillar of trying to conceive, started.

How Long Should I Wait?

The blighted ovum I experienced was immediately after a chemical pregnancy so I decided to wait a whole cycle (so 1 complete cycle)  before trying to conceive again.

This means waiting for the next menstrual cycle in order to make sure that all tissue from the previous miscarriage was cleansed and that the uterus is prepared to conceive again.

In my experience, this was important because every time you go through a new cycle you create a new uterine lining to allow for proper implantation.

 If that new lining does not have time to regenerate or heal, it can make implantation, getting pregnant, and staying pregnant difficult. 

But ultimately the wait is up to you.

Whether you wait a month or you wait a year,  emotional healing and mental health comes first.

It’s okay to wait longer if you’re not emotionally ready for a new pregnancy or for the trials of  trying to conceive.

For me, waiting a month was enough because during my very long miscarriage I was able to heal more emotionally than if my miscarriage were just a week.

And that next month I did conceive my rainbow baby and we are so grateful for her.  At the time of this blog post she is currently 11 months.

I know there are a lot of women who, first of all, who have had miscarriages like myself. 1 in 8 women experience miscarriage.

Personally, I’ve had two miscarriages, a chemical, as well as a blighted ovum that lasted 40+ days in 2018.

I have had one successful pregnancy since, my rainbow baby Ava. And I’m actually pregnant currently again and have been asked about this topic multiple times on my YouTube recently.

Overcoming Fear

I just wanted to make this post to encourage women who are afraid of pregnancy after miscarriage or who are currently pregnant and have that fear of miscarriage in the back of their minds.

Jesus said “Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?” (Matthew 6:26)

They don’t have to learn to depend on God, they just do.

Without worries, without thought, and that’s how we should live our lives as well. Knowing that He will provide us everything that we need.

Pregnancy after miscarriage: He Has a PLAN!

No need to worry sis because he has already set in place for you and your future children a plan.  He has a plan and perfect will for our lives (Jeremiah 29:11)

But seek ye first the kingdom of God and all his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. (Matthew 6:33-34) 

Don’t think about tomorrow sis because tomorrow ain’t thinking about you! 

Today is the time to live in the present. Live in what God has planned for you today.

He has a plan for you tomorrow but we don’t need to worry about what’s going to happen tomorrow we need to stick with what’s going to happen today. Specifically, what we can do today to better our lives and possibly contribute to bettering someone else’s.

What I learned is to just put ALL my trust in God because He has a plan and however many days he has planned for this child to live, that is how many days this child will live.

Although my heart and soul longs for this to be a healthy pregnancy and I’m praying and believing that this will be a healthy pregnancy at the end of the day it’s all in God’s hands!

So When Should I Announce A Pregnancy After Miscarriage?

Totally up to you and your spouse sis. But I want to encourage you to make the decision out of faith and not fear.

Having faith over fear is simply a shift in mindset. 

If you were to announce as soon as you found out, what would happen compared to announcing in the 2nd trimester?

Would your family support you less? Probably not.

I’m actually really happy I decided to announce my second pregnancy early in the first trimester because I didn’t do so with my first miscarriage and felt SO ALONE.

There’s no need to put that burden on yourself. Pregnancy is truly an exciting time to be cherished and shared. Especially pregnancy after miscarriage. You’re going to need that support sis!

My Prayer for You

Sis, my prayer for you is this:

I pray that God’s will be done over your life and the life of your children. That He embraces you with His everlasting love and you feel the warmth of His presence knowing that He will provide for you. I pray that God sends positive thoughts and scriptures to your mind daily to help you cope with a new pregnancy and allow his scripture to pierce through your heart.

My hopes for you are that your miscarriage doesn’t leave you with a broken heart but instead places a patch where brokenness was felt. I pray that God allows your heart to open and fill more with love for more children including the one you are currently carrying.

Sis, I pray that as you journey through a new pregnancy you stop to touch your belly every once a while and Thank God for the tiny blessing he is harvesting inside of you. Sis, you are fearfully and wonderfully made and definitely made for this, so walk in your purpose and walk in your truth. You are strong enough to endure this process with God by your side. Amen

Finding peace after loss can be very difficult especially when that loss is a child. I searched and searched through the Bible for comfort and for peace. I found Bible verses for miscarriage and encouragement. These few miscarriage Bible verses that I’m going to discuss personally helped me through my miscarriage but there are plenty more in the Bible to explore.

Here’s My Story

Almost two years to the date I experienced my second pregnancy and didn’t know I need bible verses for miscarriage to get me through the next few months. My first pregnancy ended in a chemical loss the month beforehand.

That was a very traumatic month for me as I learned that I was newly pregnant for the first time I also received a call from my mother who told me that my 16 year old cousin had committed suicide.

So my grief was twofold. Grieving the loss of a family member and then also grieving the loss of a potential pregnancy (and not wanting to share the news)

We had been trying for almost a year, no it was actually a year that we had been trying to conceive and finally we saw the two lines.

The chemical, yes, was devastating but we decided to try again the next month.

We actually had success and that takes us to my second pregnancy. A pregnancy that also ended in loss. But this was a different kind of loss.

As with all pregnancies and all miscarriages, every one of them is different. 

We actually got to our first ultrasound at 6 weeks pregnant and was told there was only a yolk sac but because I had had a chemical prior to this new pregnancy the doctor thought my days and dates we’re probably off (even though I tracked ovulation) and that it was too early to tell.

We Weren’t Expecting This…

They decided (and I say they as in my doctor and OB at the time) it would be best if we wait for  a couple of weeks and have another ultrasound. My HCG was constantly rising and so I thought there’s got to be a baby in there.

Couple of weeks later I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum. A pregnancy with no fetus.  

I was…  hesitant to accept the news and the diagnosis. Some could say I was in denial.

But through it all my trust was in the Lord. I trusted God to get me through and I trusted His will for my life. Trusted that because He put in my heart the desire to become a mother that it would come to pass.  

I didn’t know if it was going to be that same year or the next or 10 years from then but prayed and shared my TTC journey on YouTube.

It Lasted So Long

Sharing was a coping mechanism for me especially during this miscarriage because technically without a fetus I’ve been miscarrying since the beginning of the pregnancy.  

We chose not to proceed with a D&C procedure or the pill and let nature and God take its course. Then I started to miscarry and bleed shortly before what would have been the second trimester. 

I bled for a total of 45 days.

I ended up taking a pill to help the process a couple of weeks prior to the miscarriage ending because it was taking so long.

Here’s a journal entry from miscarriage day 44:

“June 7, 2018 – Exodus 24 

The Lord Called Moses up to Mount Sinai where Moses waited 6 days. On the 7th day the Lord Called Moses to the cloud resting at the top of the mountain. He remained with the Lord 40 days and 40 nights.  

Today I had my labs drawn and I am bleeding red but light and God is still good! Through these 40+ days he has shown me his glory and my purpose to spread his truth. I am so grateful for this process of climbing up the mountain, no matter how hard it is because that just puts me one level closer to God.”

The Best Fertility Prayer While Trying to Conceive

I found out I was pregnant for the second time ever February 23, 2018. My second baby went to heaven that year as well.  From February to June I dived deep with the Lord. A month after (July) I conceived my rainbow baby Ava.

I prayed and journaled and went to Bible Study at church twice a week to learn more about Him and about His purpose for my life.

His Word is what kept me going through all those days through all those months. His Word still keeps me going and I hope I can encourage you today through some of the scriptures He shared with me during my journey.

Bible verses for miscarriage  

1. Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God -Romans 4:20 NLT

Humans waiver and flip flop but God is a constant God. Stay encouraged through the battle and continue to give honor and glory to God.

2. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. -Proverbs 11:25 NLT. 

On this day the Lord dropped the word “refresh” into my spirit. Even though it feels like something is being constantly taken from us, we need to be generous in spirit and refresh others with the individual gifts that God has given us.

3. And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. Romans 8:26 NLT. 

It’s such a good thing to have the Holy Spirit because when you’re experiencing loss it’s so hard to pray. Especially when you’re trying to pray for yourself. Let the Holy Spirit do it for you sis.

4. In all of this, Job did not sin by blaming God. Job 1:22 NLT. 

In the book of Job, he had everything. Multiple animals, a huge family but it was all taken from him and yet he did not blame God. Sis I know it can be easy to cast blame for what happens especially in a miscarriage but all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose and will for your life.

5. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 NLT. 

He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. Another great scripture. If we were strong all the time we wouldn’t know what it would feel like to be weak and grow in strength. You are a TTC Warrior and a mother who is strong beyond her knowledge.

6. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Colossians 3:23 NLT. 

Your everyday life is your ministry. Imagine if Jesus said this is too hard. Whatever he went through, whatever you’re going through currently, you can get through it as long as you work hard for the Lord.

7. For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:21 NLT. 

God has placed certain people in your life to grow your faith. He’s also placed you in certain situations in order to grow your faith as well. Jesus never retaliated or threatened or planned revenge on the things that he went through or the people that did him wrong. He went to the Father instead.

8. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. John 1:4 NLT. 

Do you know who you are? God knows. Sis, you were built by God and in order to understand your purpose you have to let God know your heart. Tell him you love him, he deserves the praise! Jesus is not only our life but our light. 

9. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 NKJV. 

Renew your mind in the word daily! We are new creatures and all things are made new. God will see you through this because he knows every step, every tear, and every blood stain. He knows what His perfect will for you is.

1. Change Your Diet

I really don’t like to call it a diet, I like to call it a lifestyle.

For long term purposes a diet isn’t optimal. When you’re trying to conceive, a diet might get you where you need to be for a month or a couple of weeks…

But if you’re looking to change your lifestyle, balance hormones, conceive a baby and overall become healthier, it’s going to take true change.

Before I got pregnant again after my miscarriage I did some research. I found that my gut needed healing and that a lot of foods were causing my body to become inflamed.

Our bodies have a natural mechanism for fighting against things that don’t belong in our body but often we’re fighting against our own bodies by continuing to feed it junk or foods that we don’t tolerate well.

For example, foods that cause inflammation are trans fats, fast foods, salty snacks, white sugars, and white carbs. Foods like these cause our bodies to fight harder and do too much work.

So I changed my diet to eat more anti-inflammatory foods and I actually detailed that in my Fertility Nutrition Guide with recipes and a food list!

2. Drink More Water

Hydrate those eggs ladies!

This should probably be neck and neck as number one in trying to conceive tips.

During my conception month for my baby girl Ava my goal was a gallon of water a day (128 oz). The reason water is so important for ovulation is because your body needs water (in general) in order to function correctly.

My husband drinks over a gallon a day so I’m sure his sperm quality is AMAZING.

But my eggs… DRY.

Your body goes into dehydration mode when you don’t drink enough water.

Meaning only your vital organs get the benefit of the water you ARE drinking and unfortunately reproductive organs don’t fall under vital.

3. Track Ovulation

How to get pregnant fast

All of these tips definitely have to do with being more in tuned with your body. Tracking ovulation is key when trying to conceive and to get pregnant fast!

The end of your fertile window (time where you are most fertile) is indicated by ovulation.  Ovulation is defined as the release of a mature egg from the ovarian follicle.

Some women will feel ovulation pain when an egg is released but most women do not which can also make it difficult in knowing when you have ovulated.

That’s where ovulation predictor kits also known as OPK’s come in. These kits are very beneficial while trying to conceive, especially if you’re just learning about your cycle and your body.

OPK’s detect the impending release of your egg through a urine test for the presence of a hormone called the luteinizing hormone or better known as LH.  You always have LH in your system but LH will surge (increase) during ovulation. This time frame is 24 to 48 hours.

As far as basal body temperatures and ovulation goes, it’s great for confirming ovulation but not ideal for actually knowing when ovulation day is coming.

4. Exercise and Move Your Body

The month I conceived I listened to my personal trainer! I moved my body 20-30 minutes a day!

I feel like when I exercise first thing in the morning I feel completely satisfied with life.

It could be anything from stretching (yoga), walking outside or on the tready, or a workout to get your heart pumping. After I conceived my first baby I actually started doing these home workouts and got pregnant (8 months postpartum) after completing this program.

I actually lost 30lbs in 4 months and was back to my pre-college weight (with added muscle) before conceiving baby # 2.

Great thing is, you can actually try the workouts with me and jump all in with a nutrition and workout package for a year like I did.

Either way, it’s time to get to moving sis!

5. Meditation and Quiet Time

The thing is, with trying to conceive it can become so overwhelming (raise your hand or comment below if you know what I mean).

It is so important that you are not stressed when trying to conceive.

But when your mind is stressed, then your body also takes on that stress. Stress doesn’t provide an optimal womb for a baby to thrive in.

In my office and prayer room I set the mood with candles and encouraging books. I love to play worship music and spend some quiet time with the Lord.

I pray over my womb using focused fertility prayers and just allow my mind to be cleared of any distractions or negativity.

It also really helps to keep a gratitude journal during TTC (and motherhood as well) to focus in on things that you are grateful for each day. It changes your entire mindset for the day and optimizes a positive atmosphere for your mind and body connection!

Get Pregnant Fast!

That’s what we did to get pregnant fast! And we actually got pregnant within a month of implementing the above tips.

I’ll also note that I went through a 40+ day miscarriage prior to conceiving baby girl Ava as well.

So if you’ve just had a miscarriage or going through one right now, my heart and prayers goes out to you because I know EXACTLY how you’re feeling sis.

Especially if you’re like me and often symptom spot during the two week wait. Above all, I know that  being patient while trying to conceive can be a task so we’ll touch on that as well. Prayer is powerful! I like to think of prayer as a time for me to talk to God like I’m talking to my best friend. You talk to your best friend and/or spouse everyday, right? 

It’s like that! 

Sometimes a good fertility prayer can help you release some of the heaviness weighing on your heart during this time.

Also, I know it’s hard and maybe you’ve heard this before but we always have to think about God’s timing above our own. Yes, motherhood has been placed in our heart but at the end of the day it’s God’s will above our own.

PREP

Think about how you can prepare yourself for motherhood. Certainly, some think the preparation begins during pregnancy but have you ever stopped to think if God is preparing you RIGHT NOW, at this moment, as you try to conceive?

I know for me, God permitted me to experience miscarriages in preparation for my true purpose. Sharing my testimony and helping other future mama’s find faith during the wait.

The Best Fertility Prayer While Trying to Conceive

Praying for a baby during infertility seems like a continual prayer that goes in circles. Am I right? You’re trying to conceive but there’s a bigger emphasis on trying than the part where you’re supposed to conceive. You’re wondering why God hasn’t yet answered your prayer? Right? Well sis, I want to teach you how to pray with POWER over future children and open your womb through fertility prayer.

Where to Begin?

My prayer journey started with a pen and paper. 

At first I didn’t know how to pray so I wrote to God, and I’m sure many others before giving your life to Christ didn’t know how to pray as well, so this post is for you. 

Grab a journal and just start writing your thoughts, desires, weaknesses, strengths, worries, and pain. God wants to hear it all.

As a prayer newbie, when it came to praying I would OCCASIONALLY pray over my food saying: “Thank you Lord for this food that you have given me. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.” 

Yep, that’s it. 

That was the extent of my prayer life, and from what I can remember it didn’t even happen everyday. 

So a lot of the food in my lifetime has been eaten unblessed.

Increase your Fertility Faith in 5 Steps

Now when it comes to prayer, I find myself 15 minutes in with tissues full of tears and on the floor, laid out before God. 

Don’t worry, I’m not always so dramatic but when God is working IN my life I can’t help but to give Him praise and when he is working ON my life I can’t help but to pray!

Learn to Pray

In 2015, at a women’s group meeting at church, I learned how to pray. 

I was taught an acronym to remember for prayer: ACTS. (Because we want God to ACT in our life, right?) 

ACT:

  • Adoration
  • Confession
  • Thanksgiving
  • Supplication

First, give adoration for our Lord and savior, honor God and tell Him how great he is for the sacrifice that he gave for you. Give him praise and acknowledge Him as your one and only God.

Then, confess any sins known and unknown. Pray that the Lord fill you with more of him and less of this world.

Next, thank Him for what He’s done, for what He is doing, and for what He is going to do in your life. Give him praise again because he is worthy!

Finally, supplicate yourself unto Him. Humbly ask God for your heart’s desire. Make your request known to Him so that he may provide.

“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16 KJV

Apply Prayer to Your Life

In other words, the sincere and passionate prayer of a saved and sanctified man (or woman) is beneficially powerful. 

I don’t know about you, but I want my prayers to be powerful.

Every time I pray I want God to know that I thank him, praise him, and give Glory to his name. Now as I have evolved in my prayer life to pray multiple times a day (even praying over my vitamins, lol) I find myself thinking of others out of the blue. 

I believe that is the Holy Spirit letting me know that person is in need of prayer and I obey. Therefore, dive into prayer so that you may be blessed and also be a blessing to others.

Now that I have built this TTC community I find that my subscribers or email list sisters come to mind frequently in need of fertility prayers! How great is OUR God!

How Do I Begin to Pray?

Here’s a simple prayer to start with:

The Lord’s Prayer

“Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” Matthew 6:9-13

Now, I start everyday with “Thank You Jesus” as I awake and prayer as I start my day. 

On the way to the gym I pray. 

Before I eat,  pray. 

While I’m at work, I definitely pray.  

My mother-in-law gave me a perfect scripture/painting to hang on my wall as a housewarming gift:

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, PRAY about everything.” Philippians 4:6

Hannah prayed to conceive a baby and I related to her story immensely when I was trying to conceive my first child! She continued hoping and praying that motherhood is God’s will for her life. Is that you right now, sis?

The Story of Hannah 

The name Hannah means graciousness and favor. God favored Hannah just like he favors you and I.  Elkanah (Hannah’s husband) also had another wife named Penninah. Penninah had children and Hannah did not.

Elkanah loved Hannah even though God had closed her womb. Because of this Penninah constantly provoked Hannah.

Have you ever been provoked? I’m pretty sure you can think of some instigators in your life who are always negative, nagging or demeaning towards you. Sometimes we provoke ourselves! We see other pregnant women or happy couples or someone with something that WE WANT and we become so negative towards ourselves. In our minds we start to think that these things will never happen for us.

Well this happened to Hannah for YEARS. I can’t imagine what Hannah was going through and to be nagged at the same time by another woman?

Hannah was provoked into a state of depression. She cried. She didn’t eat. The burden of being barren was too much. Infertility was taking over her life.

And then Elkanah, (bless his heart) asked Hannah “why are you crying? and not eating? Why are you so down my love?” He said am I not enough? I am surely better than 10 sons.

Little did Elkanah know that some voids cannot be filled by man alone but only by God. Hannah “was in bitterness of soul” (1 Samuel 10). Has your soul ever been bitter? What did you do about it?

How can I be like Hannah?

Sacrifice.

Because her soul was so bitter, she prayed and made a vow onto the Lord:

“And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.” (1 Samuel 1:11)

She made a sacrifice before she received anything from God. She dedicated her son to the Lord even before she knew she would have one.

Pray.

Hannah continued to pray at church. Eli, the priest, one day saw Hannah and her lips were moving but no words came out. (Sometimes I have a silent prayer because I know God hears my heart.) Eli thought she was drunk the way she prayed. He asked why she came to church drunk?

Hannah replied by saying she was not drunk but in deep sorrow and only pouring out her soul to the Lord. How many of us are that deep in our prayers where we look crazy and drunk?

So deep in our prayers that we are giving our ALL to God.

Eli Understood and said go in peace and may God grant your request. Sometimes God will send someone or people to confirm our prayers and that he has heard our cries.

“”Oh, thank you, sir!” she exclaimed. Then she went back and began to eat again, and she was no longer sad.” (1 Samuel 1:18)

Worship

Trying to Conceive Guide

The next morning the family went to church and worshipped. Therefore, we have to pray and then worship, praise Him even before our prayers are answered. Have faith in our worship that our prayers have been heard.

After worshipping, they returned home and Elkanah knew Hannah. When someone ever knew someone else in the bible it means they were baby dancing! Then the bible says that “the Lord remembered her”.

In due time (bible doesn’t state how long) Hannah conceived a son named Samuel who ultimately became a prophet. Then the Lord remember Hannah 5 more times (she had 5 more children).

Faith

I’ll leave you with this: “Faith takes God without any ifs” -D.L. Moody

No more “if” I conceive. Have faith in God my love!

Sacrifice for the Lord as he has sacrificed for us. So, pour out your heart in prayer and then worship him for the blessing you have faith is on it’s way!

He will remember you like he remembered Hannah.

Fertility Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you in praise and in worship of your holy name. We honor you for what you are doing, have done and will do in our lives. We thank you for the opportunity to come boldly at your feet and pour out our greatest desires.

For God, your word says that you will give us the desires of our hearts if we delight in you. Today Lord, we ask that you open any closed womb Lord. Lord we pray that you touch and open our womb God so that we may carry a child through a healthy pregnancy. We pray that your healing touch is upon our reproductive organs and that you regulate any irregular hormones.

We pray that you cover our husband as well during this time Lord so that his seed may be ready. Today we plant a seed of prayer, we will continue to water it by diving deeper with you because we know that you are the only one who can give the increase and growth. Soften our hearts Lord to follow you  and to bask in your presence. Answer “year by year” prayers today Lord.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Trying to conceive aka TTC is the act and the journey of making a baby. Ooooweee it’s a journey y’all to conceiving a child, a baby, an offspring of your own! 

The reason I call it a journey (if your there sis, you understand) is because for some it’s definitely a marathon rather than a sprint! And it takes a lot of prayer! Have you ever prepared for a marathon? If yes, then you know it takes a lot of work. If not, then I know you can only imagine!

How can I increase my chances of getting pregnant this month?

Unfortunately, when we were younger the “don’t have sex or you’ll get pregnant” chastisement from your parents wasn’t all entirely true. Women have a very, I’m talking VERY small window for conception to happen. For sperm to meet the egg and join into a beautiful baby.

It’s hard because not all women know that! And today I hope to shed some light on what you should do when you need to get pregnant this month, really like yesterday!

How do you track your menstrual cycle to get pregnant?

So let’s start with your cycle. Tracking your cycle is so important when you are actively trying to conceive. The most important part of tracking your cycle has got to be your fertile window!

Figuring out your fertile window will get you one step closer to that baby you desire to carry. A fertile window is the window of time (the amount of days) that you are most fertile during your cycle.

This window is directly correlated with ovulation so knowing when you ovulate is definitely a key factor as well in your cycle but we’ll get to that later.  Without the proper tools or maybe even apps (my favorite cycle tracking app is Glow) it can be hard to determine when your fertile window is.

But there is a key fertility sign that will help and assist you to figure out when that window applies for you. That wonderful fertility sign is cervical mucus.   

I know it sounds a little TMI but yes we will be discussing the fluid that comes from your vagina unfortunately during TTC there’s a lot of TMI sis.

Cervical mucus or also known as cervical fluid or sometimes referred to as vaginal discharge can really help you in determining when your fertile window is. 

There are many different variations of cervical fluid:

  • Dry (no cervical fluid) or damp
  • Sticky, crumbly, rubbery
  • Creamy, lotiony, milky
  • Eggwhite, slippery, clear, stretchy

For your fertile window we’re going to focus on those last two: creamy and eggwhite. When you get into your fertile window your cervical mucus will become creamier and wetter. When you are approaching ovulation your cervical mucus will become eggwhite, slippery clear, or stretchy and I say “or stretchy” because it can also just not be stretchy at all. 

You also might notice streaked eggwhite cervical mucus which can often be a sign of ovulation spotting.  

So sis, if you don’t learn ANYTHING but THIS: When you see egg white cervical mucus it is GO TIME. Grab hubby and start trying, like right now!

How can I increase my chances of getting pregnant?

Knowing when you ovulate helps to increase your chances of getting pregnant. The end of your fertile window is indicated by ovulation.  Ovulation is defined as the release of a mature egg from the ovarian follicle. 

Some women will feel ovulation pain when an egg is released but most women do not which can also make it difficult in knowing when you have ovulated.

That’s where ovulation predictor kits also known as OPK’s come in. These kits are very beneficial while trying to conceive, especially if you’re just learning about your cycle and your body. 

OPK’s detect the impending release of your egg through a urine test for the presence of a hormone called the luteinizing hormone or better known as LH.  You always have LH in your system but LH will surge (increase) during ovulation. This time frame is 24 to 48 hours. 

Remember when I told you that we as women have that small window… there it is. 

Tracking your cycle, figuring out your fertile window, and when you ovulate each cycle are foundational to trying to conceive. That’s where to begin sis!

How to Balance Hormones to Get Pregnant

So the next step in trying to get pregnant is starting and/or maintaining a healthy lifestyle! 

So you’re tracking your cycle, maybe you see some irregularities? Some women experience  the following hormonal imbalances:

  • Short luteal phase (two week wait time frame between ovulation and your period), 
  • Anovulation (not ovulating at all)
  • Limited cervical fluid
  • Irregular cycles
  • Hormonal conditions such as PCOS and endometriosis
  • Miscarriages
  • Underweight or Overweight
  • Recently stopped birth control

Let’s be real. I had 5 out of the 8 listed there and guess what: I’m currently pregnant with my second child as I’m creating this blog post!

So try these healthy lifestyle tips that helped ME to help balance your hormones and increase your chances of pregnancy!

Fertility Rich Foods to Get Pregnant

Ahhhh, the beauty of nutrition. One of my favorite topics to discuss but also my least favorite to adhere to 🙈(Ya girl loves sweets)!

But sweet tooth aside, increasing fertility rich foods will definitely put you on the right track to not only a healthier lifestyle but healthy hormones for trying to conceive as well!

Fertility Nutrition

Let’s decrease trans fats (partially hydrogenated oils) and increase healthy fats (avocados, nuts and seeds).

Let’s decrease sugary drinks and increase water (at least half your body weight(lbs) in ounces. So if you weigh 200lbs then you need to be drinking 100 ounces daily. Surprisingly enough of us don’t get enough water. 

No dry eggs if you’re going to be apart of this community sis!

Just to touch on water a little bit longer… The month I conceived my first sticky bean (baby Ava) I drank A GALLON of water almost every day and then BOOM BFP (big fat positive) pregnancy test at 8 DPO (days past ovulation). I was also in the I need to get pregnant this month mindset BECAUSE I had just miscarried (again).

I’m just saying. Hydrate those eggs. *steps off soapbox*

Prenatal Vitamins

It’s important to start a prenatal vitamin before you are trying to conceive. Here’s the prenatal vitamin or this one that I have used in the past.

Folic acid is the most important vitamin for trying to conceive or early pregnancy. Folic acid helps your future baby develop properly and protects it against serious birth defects. 

Most prenatal vitamins include folic acid.

Exercise to Improve Fertility and Get Pregnant

It might not be the quick fix for “I need to get pregnant this month or else” but I can’t begin to tell you how important intentionally moving your body is not only for balancing hormones but also just your overall health sis.

Estrogen is stored in fat. Sooo too much fat = too much estrogen which is a no go in certain phases of your cycle.

So if you happen to be overweight then exercising to decrease body fat is an excellent way to increase fertility.

BUT if you are underweight, you can have hormonal issues as well such as anovulation. In this case, weight gain is a more plausible action.

Figure out where you stand and balance it out. Not skinny, not fat, if we have to put a title on it let’s just say HEALTHY. 🙂 I host virtual faith and fitness accountability groups for women who are TTC, you can check that out here.

Seek Support for TTC and after loss

We’ve come to a very difficult topic of discussion for TTC… When to seek support and whom from (who from?) you get what I’m saying!

Especially after you have experienced a miscarriage or any type of fetal loss…

When: ASAP or as soon as you feel comfortable, but trust me you’re going to need SOMEONE to confide in. Don’t bottle it up sis. Also, if you think you’ve exhausted all options, it might be time to seek fertility support through a specialist.

Whom: For this section I’ve created The 3 S’s that helped me with support.

The Best Fertility Prayer While Trying to Conceive
  1. Spiritual: You may or may not be spiritual or religious, but I am Christian and looked to God for support during my journey. I prayed fertility prayers and blessed my womb daily while trying to conceive
  2. Spousal: Good ol’ hubby. Yea he might not want to hear about your cervical fluid but your spouse is always a good strong shoulder to hang on to. Ask him how he feels about the journey, you never know he might need a shoulder in return.
  3. Sisters: There are so many women going through the EXACT situation you are experiencing. Reach out to different forums, on YouTube, or through TTC groups like this one to find sisters to connect with.
