Every Good Thing

Sometimes it’s easy to forget the source of our good fortunes when things are going well. We can get so caught up in our daily lives and routine that we take for granted the good things we have. But it’s important to remember that every good thing ultimately comes from God.

As a Christian, you may have been taught that every good and perfect gift is from God (James 1:17). And while this is absolutely true, it can be easy to forget when you’re in the midst of financial challenges. When bills are piling up and you don’t know how you’re going to make ends meet, it’s hard to remember that God is in control and that He has a plan for your life. But take heart—you’re not alone. Many Christians face financial challenges at some point in their lives.

Good Gifts

One of the things that can help us weather financial challenges is remembering that every good thing is a gift from God. This includes our talents and abilities, our material possessions, and even our health. When we take the time to count our blessings, we realize just how much God has given us—and we can trust that He will continue to provide for us, even when times are tough.

Good Measure

Another thing to remember during financial challenges is that God gives us good things in measure (Ecclesiastes 5:19). This doesn’t mean that He only gives us enough to get by—He actually wants to bless us abundantly. But it does mean that we need to be good stewards of what He has given us. This can be especially difficult during times of financial hardship, but it’s important to remember that everything we have is on loan from God and we will be accountable for how we use it.

Good Work

One of the best ways to weather financial challenges is by doing good work. Proverbs 22:29 says, “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men.” When we focus on doing our best and serving others well, God blesses us with opportunities that can help us overcome financial challenges. We may not always end up serving before kings, but when we do good work, God will open doors for us—doors that may lead to steady work and financial security.

Good Treasure

God is the ultimate provider and He has blessed us with an abundance of resources. Sometimes, we may not have everything we want, but we always have everything we need. And even when it seems like we don’t have anything, God promises to never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). So, whatever situation you find yourself in, know that God will always take care of you.

Good Health

Another example of a good thing that comes from God is our health. Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and we should take care of them as best as we can. However, there will be times when despite our best efforts, we will still get sick. This is where our faith comes into play. We know that through Christ, we are healed (Isaiah 53:5). So, even in times when our health is not perfect, we can trust that God is still in control and He will work everything out for our good (Romans 8:28).

Lord Jesus help me to remember the good things in my life when finances aren’t looking so good. Remind me of God’s promises of yes and amen. The work of your hands is always good and the harvest is plentiful. My heart trusts in you Lord and I know that this financial crisis is just a season. Help me to have a prosperous life as my soul continues to prosper faithfully in you. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray, amen.

How to Improve Your Financial Life

The Bible has a lot to say about how we should manage our finances. Here are some biblical principles that can help us be a faithful steward and manage our money wisely:

Give Generously

In 2 Corinthians 9:7, Paul says, “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” This verse teaches us that we should give generously out of a desire to please God, not out of obligation or because we feel like we have to. When we give generously, it shows that we trust God to provide for us and meet our needs.

Save for the Future

In Proverbs 6:6-8, Solomon says, “Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest.” These verses teach us that we should save for the future and not live impulsively in the present. We need to be wise with our money and not spend everything we have on things that we don’t need.

Invest Your Time and Talents

In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus tells the parable of the talents. In this parable, a man entrusts his talents (which represent our time and abilities) to his servants before going on a journey. When he returns, he asks them what they did with the talents he gave them.

The two servants who invested their talents and made them grow were commended by their master while the servant who did nothing with his talent was condemned. This parable teaches us that we need to invest our time and talents wisely so that they can grow and be used for God’s glory rather than letting them go to waste.

The Bible has a lot to say about how we should handle our finances. We should give generously out of a desire to please God, save for the future so that we are prepared for tough times, and invest our time and talents wisely so that they can be used for God’s glory. These principles can help us steward our money in a way that is pleasing to God and beneficial for us in the long run.

Bible Verses on Finances

Proverbs 21:20

“In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has.”

This verse teaches us that we need to be wise with our spending and not squander our resources on things that are not important.

Proverbs 22:7

“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.”

This verse teaches us that it is better not to borrow money so we’re not indebted to someone else.

Matthew 6:19-21

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth … but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven … For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

This verse teaches us that we should not focus on earthly possessions but rather on things that have eternal value.
