Ahhh, this can be so frustrating! One day your haakaa is working, and the next day you only get 1 oz with your haakaa.
I want to share with you some reasons I’ve personally found my haakaa to be faulty at times and things I did to fix the problem!
Why is my Haakaa Not Working?
There are a few reasons why your haakaa might not be working as well as it should. Here are some of the most common problems:
Pump Not Suctioned Correctly
If the pump isn’t suctioned correctly to your breast, you won’t be able to get milk out. Make sure that the Haakaa rim is pressed firmly against your breast and that the base is pointing downwards.
You might also find it helpful to use your other hand to help guide the pump into place.
Once your pump is properly placed over your nipple and centered, squeeze the bottom area shaped like a bulb to create a suction on the breast.
Clogged Milk Duct
If you have a clogged duct, pumping may be painful, and you won’t be able to get much milk out. If this is the case, try using a warm compress on your breast for a few minutes before pumping or feeding.

Wrong Size Haakaa
If you’re using a Haakaa that is the wrong size for your breast, you won’t be able to get as much milk out as you would with a properly sized pump.
Believe it or not, I have found a slight difference in my haakaa variations. After a few months of breastfeeding, I found that I was not getting as much milk from my 5oz haakaa.
I also had a 4oz haakaa, and its fit was slightly smaller than that of my 5 oz. When I switched to my 4oz haakaa, I started to receive my regular amount of milk.
Make sure to choose the right size haakaa for your body.
Final Thoughts
