How do I pray to get pregnant?

Last Updated on September 28, 2023 by Avi Steen

I know from experience that praying for yourself is not easy sometimes. Especially when you are struggling to conceive. You might be asking yourself “how do I pray to get pregnant?” Is it selfish? Or is it a valid request to God who can do the impossible?

Praying to get pregnant is definitely something God desires of us to do. He loves when we come to him with the desires of our hearts and seek His promises over our life. Learning how to pray to get pregnant is not at complicated as it may sometimes feel.

How do I pray to get pregnant?

Your prayer to get pregnant is grounded in the desires of your heart. The bible says the effective fervent prayer of the righteous avails much (James 5:16). Therefore praying with power, passion and with heart is how you pray to get pregnant.

Hannah in 1 Samuel is the perfect example of a woman who knew how to pray to get pregnant. Her prayer was powerful and passionate.

It was so passionate the priest in the church thought she was drunk!

“As she kept on praying to the Lord, Eli observed her mouth. Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk and said to her, “How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine.”” (1 Samuel 12-14)

That’s how it feels sometimes right? We’re crying out so hard and so much for a child that it makes other people look at us crazy.

“When are you and your husband going to have children?” “When are you going to give me grandchildren?” Those are questions friends and family asked me on my journey to conceive and when I told them we were trying, they would look at me crazy wondering why it was taking so long.

Eventually my response become: “ask God”.

How do I pray to God for pregnancy?

“Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.” – Hannah (1 Samuel 11)

The bible has many illustrations of how to pray for pregnancy. Once again, Hannah gives us a perfect example. Here are some things she included in her prayer: she acknowledge God, she humbled herself, she made her request, and she made verbal promise and sacrifice.

Your prayer to God for pregnancy can be modeled after Hannah’s prayer with your sacrifice being a fast led by God for the promise that He has for your womb.

What does the Bible say about praying for a baby?

In the Bible, Hannah conceived after praying for a son and pouring out her desires to the Lord. “For this child I prayed and the Lord has granted the desires of my heart.” (1 Samuel 1:27) God not only knows the desires of our heart but because He created us and formed us, He also knows the plans for each and every one of us. Including the future children, He has placed on your heart to conceive. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” (Jeremiah 1:5)

Praying for a baby is similar to praying for anything that the bible discusses. Check out this video to see how to form your prayers to pray over the womb:

Can prayers help you get pregnant?

Yes, prayers can be beneficial to help you get pregnant. Studies have shown that positive mindsets and attitudes have helped in decreasing stressors often associated with infertility.

Prayers can help you release your feelings to God and reduce anxiety, depression, or stress associated with getting pregnant. The Bible tells us to cast our worries onto God because he cares for us and will sustain us.

During infertility, I know from personal experience I needed to be sustained. I needed stability and prayer helped me do just that.

How do you pray properly?

There is no way to properly pray. Everyone has their own individual prayer style and language to communicate with God. There are however ways you can learn how to pray if you’re a beginner or stuck. I use the acronym ACTS. Adoration, confession, thanks, and supplication.

First, give adoration for our Lord and savior, honor God and tell Him how great he is for the sacrifice that he gave for you. Give him praise and acknowledge Him as your one and only God.

Then, confess any sins known and unknown. Pray that the Lord fill you with more of him and less of this world.

Next, thank Him for what He’s done, for what He is doing, and for what He is going to do in your life. Give him praise again because he is worthy!

Finally, supplicate yourself unto Him. Humbly ask God for your heart’s desire. Make your request known to Him so that he may provide.

Is there a wrong way to pray?

There is no wrong way to pray. Praying is communication with God. You can pray your heart out through tears and passion or you can chat with God like you would your best friend. Anyway that you connect with God through prayer is accepted by our loving Father.

Sometimes I get so intense in my prayers that I’m crying on the floor pouring out my heart. Then there are times where I sitting on the couch and chatting with God like I’m on the phone with a friend.

Whether you are connecting with God to learn more and hear His voice or asking for something through prayer, there’s no wrong way. Connect with God today by simply engaging in conversation.

But remember, communication happens two ways. Take the time to sit and listen for His response, whether it be a booming voice, a soft whisper, or a direction to open your bible. God speaks.
